Windows 7 Activation Error: 0xC004F061

To fix this error perform the following steps:

1. Click on Start and type "regedit" in the search box. Click on "regedit" under Programs. This will open the Registry Editor window.
2. Now expand the regisrty key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\OOBE
3. Selecting the OOBE would give "MediaBootInstall" on the right pane.
4. Right click MediaBootInstall and click on "Modify".
5. Delete number 1 from the "Value Data" box and type 0. Then click on "OK" . If the "Value Data" box has the number 0, you don't have to change anything. Close the Registry Editor.
6. Click on Start and type "cmd" in the search box. Right click on "cmd" under Programs and click on "Run as administrator".
7. In the command prompt window type the command below and hit enter.
cscript.exe slmgr.vbs -rearm
Once the command is executed you'll see the message "Command completed successfully. Please restart your computer."
8. Restart your computer.
9. Click on Start, right click on Computer, left click on Properties and you'll get "View basic information about your computer" window. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on "Activate windows now".
10. Type your product key and click on "Next". The Windows will get activated.

PS: In case you get a message to type a new product key you may have to use the  "Use the automated phone system to activate". You'll get the "Automated Phone System" option under "Show other ways to activate Windows".
